  • hi hello :-)

A home for creating is an online community and membership that celebrates the process of creating more than it does the end result.

And in using a program called Notion, I was able to build an entirely personalized and moldable membership area without cutting corners, swapping aesthetic for functionality, or compromising our mental health for anxiety and overwhelm in the face of creating and sharing.

With a home for creating, I built it as I would a room in my own home, cultivating it into a space I would want to spend my Sunday afternoons. Somewhere to read, write, catch up, source inspiration, brainstorm, and create something just because.

And while the intent behind it has always been to be shared, I’ve treasured how slowly I’ve been able to get to know it. To see how we fit together, move together, and make things together, but I’m also eager to see what kinds of conversations we will have, the ideas and projects that will come out of it, and how we’ll choose to create and share in a way that fits our own unique process.

It’s hard to know how to talk about it without showing you the space itself, so here, let me pull it up: this is the main "room" (I’m updating it all the time with aspects of my own creative process!), and there’s the audio library, a book club, monthly digest, daily notes, and a bulletin board guiding you through recent additions.

And, of course, there’s the individual categories we’ll use to organize our thoughts and projects into: experiments, voice-notes, videos, an archive, and further ways to connect.

From the beginning, my goal has been to make it as accessible as possible (both in cost and how the information is shared), and so I did my best to answer the questions one might have when looking to join an online community like this one, as well as being clear on my own boundaries and values when it comes to managing and tending to it.

I’m really so proud of how it’s come together, and I can’t wait to see how it continues to unfold and change shape, taking on iterations of its own.

    Talk soon,
    Chloe

  • In the walkthrough (see gallery), you'll notice one main area, a primary navigation, and several ways to connect.

The main room (also known as 'area'), is the primary landing page for all inspiration, daily/weekly updates, and new community content.

From the main room, new content is added to the sections within the primary navigation:

  • 'Community conversations' is a community space for connecting and supporting each other through the creative process. It is a part of a home for creating.

Due to the nature of community conversations, this digital space (also hosted in Notion) has a short submission process in order to become a participant.

This extra step is to ensure that you consent to being a part of an interactive online community with other members of a home for creating, before being given access.

*Inside of a home for creating, you'll find a section called 'join community conversations.' This is where you will go to begin the submission process.

    Privacy

If you are an active member, or were a member in the past, I ask that the content within a home for creating, including the URL, is not shared with anyone outside of this community. Thank you.

  • When you sign up to become a member of a home for creating, you’ll be creating an account with chloealmeda.com. Access to your account will always be available to you within the website’s main navigation (found at the top of the website).

To login to your account, just click on where it says ‘account’ or ‘login.’ Once clicked, a pop up will appear asking you to sign in using your email and the password you created when you first joined.

Once logged in, a menu will pop up on the side of your screen (if you’re on your phone this may look different). This menu has everything you’ll need to both access a home for creating and make changes to your account.

To visit a home for creating’s Notion member area, click on where it says, ‘a home for creating’s member area 🐚’ just below where it says ‘pages’ within the main menu.

And just above where it says ‘pages,’ you can ‘manage your subscription.’ This is where you’d go if you want to change your password, cancel your account, or update your card information.

If you have any further questions about navigating these steps, don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • 01.

a home for creating is to be interacted with as you would a website's membership area.

And while this community space is hosted in Notion (the app), it is not itself a Notion template to be duplicated for your own use.

    02.

While you are not required to download the Notion app in order to join as a member, if you are interested in participating in the community conversations aspect, you will be asked to create a free Notion account (unless you already have one). This is discussed further in 'the community' section above.

    03.

And unless it specifically states otherwise, there is no set content schedule for this community space.

That said, I will be sure to make known what is shared on a weekly basis vs. monthly. If you want to be updated on new content, there is a newsletter option, as well as the monthly digest, which I will update anytime new content is shared.

    04.

For privacy purposes, the URL of the Notion member area is subject to change (roughly once every two months). The current active link will always be available to you within your account page when you become a member through this site.

    05.

Alongside the creative content shared within this community, the format, structure, design, artwork, and so on, is also subject to change.

One of the joys of designing this space in Notion, is the flexibility that it brings to our fluctuating needs and desires.

Because while we may love the way something feels right now, come a month or two, our opinions may differ…and I want there to be room for that difference.

For us to exist in the in between. For this space to move and expand with us, not against.

A more detailed look inside the community member area, can be found in this gallery.
