hi hello :-)

I’d love to share with you a little bit about a home for creating—it is a community space and monthly membership that celebrates the process of creating more than it does the end result.

In order to customize the space as much as I knew I wanted to, I decided to create it in an app called Notion, allowing me to build an entirely personalized and moldable membership area, without having to compromise aesthetic for functionality.

And while I would normally have self-enforced rules around what a community space should be, with a home for creating, I built it as I would a room in my own home, cultivating it into a space I would want to spend Sunday afternoons in...

To light a candle and read in. Write in. Learn in. Hold a workshop in. Invite a friend over to watch movies and eat popcorn in. A space to gather, make a mess in, tidy up, and come back into.

And while the intent behind it has always been to be shared, I’ve treasured how slowly I’ve been able to get to know it. To see how we fit together, move together, and make things together, but I’m also eager to see what kinds of conversations we will have, the ideas and projects that will come out of it, and how we’ll choose to create and share our own process alongside one another.

It’s hard to know how to talk about it without showing you the space itself, so here, let me pull it up: this is the main "room" (I’m updating it all the time with aspects of my own creative process!), and there’s the audio library, a book club, monthly digest, imagery to be inspired by, and a bulletin board guiding you through recent additions to the space as a whole. And, of course, there’s the individual pages that each have their own unique focus: experiments, voice-notes, videos, an archive, and further ways to connect.

From the beginning, my goal has been to make it as accessible as possible (both in cost and how the information is shared), and so I did my best to answer the questions I might have when looking to join an online community like this one, as well as being clear on my own boundaries and values when it comes to managing and tending to it.

I’m really so proud of how it’s come together, and I can’t wait to see how it continues to unfold and change shape, taking on iterations of its own.

The main room (also known as 'area'), is the primary landing page for all inspiration, daily/weekly updates, and new community content.

'Community conversations' is a community space for connecting and supporting each other through the creative process. It is a part of a home for creating.

Due to the nature of community conversations, this digital space (also hosted in Notion) has a short submission process in order to become a participant.

This extra step is to ensure that you consent to being a part of an interactive online community with other members of a home for creating, before being given access.

*Inside of a home for creating, you'll find a section called 'join community conversations.' This is where you will go to begin the submission process.

a home for creating is to be interacted with as you would a website's membership area.

And while this community space is hosted in Notion (the app), it is not itself a Notion template to be duplicated for your own use.

While you are not required to download the Notion app in order to join as a member, if you are interested in participating in the community conversations aspect, you will be asked to create a free Notion account (unless you already have one). This is discussed further in 'the community' section above.

And unless it specifically states otherwise (the Sunday check-in, etc.), there is no set content schedule for this community space.

That said, I will be sure to make known what is shared on a weekly basis vs. monthly. If you want to be updated on new content, there is a newsletter option, as well as the monthly digest, which I will update anytime new content is shared.

For privacy purposes, the URL of the Notion member area is subject to change (roughly once every two months). The current active link will always be available to you within your account page when you become a member through this site.

Alongside the creative content shared within this community, the format, structure, design, artwork, and so on, is also subject to change.

One of the joys of designing this space in Notion, is the flexibility that it brings to our fluctuating needs and desires.

Because while we may love the way something feels right now, come a month or two, our opinions may differ…and I want there to be room for that difference.

For us to exist in the in between. For this space to move and expand with us, not against.
